Q) What are your pronouns and how do you sexually identify?

I feel aligned with she/her. I don't strongly identify with many labels, however pansexual is what feel most fitting for my sexual identity. I am very much attracted to energy over and above gender.

Q) What currently turns you on in life and in the bedroom?

I am a sensual archetype in the bedroom so I'm most turned on when I feel deeply seen, adored and embraced by my lovers whole being; their eyes, their hands and when we become deeply attuned to each other and flow together intimately.

In life I am again turned on through my senses, I love beautiful things, flowers, nature, moments, connections, people, sunsets, all of this turns me on and brings waves of pleasure through my body on the daily.

Q) What was the main message about sex and sexuality that you received growing up?

Basically it was: don't do it, don't talk about it and pretend it's not a thing! This saddens me because I internalised this as shame around sex and my curiosity and desire for sex well into my 30s (I'm now 40) and it impacted my relationship with my body, with my partners and my sexuality. It wasn't until I was 36 that I fully reclaimed my own beliefs and perspectives about sex and accepted and embraced my sexuality.

Q) How did you begin to explore and establish your own beliefs around sex and sexuality?

I began my journey later in life, despite experiencing sexual abuse inside my early adult relationships, I felt closed to deeply exploring anything. I felt the call to explore this work, yet the internalised shame and childhood messaging held me back. For me it was initially workshops and retreats where I explored womb work, self pleasure and erroticism that inspired a reclamation and relationship with myself and my sexuality. Since then I have joined many trainings and immersions to more deeply connect with and practice the powers of sex and pleasure.

Q) If you had the chance, what would you tell your younger self about sex and self pleasure now?

I would lovingly and openly share with my younger self that sex with myself and another is the most natural and beautiful thing I can and will experience. That sex is sacred, my body is sacred, my womb is sacred and (this one I would emphasise!) sex with another is an energetic exchange that gets to be revered and honoured by myself and another.

Q) How & when did you first find/discover/explore your genitals and the pleasure you could receive?

I've had to think hard about this one, as I don't remember the first time I self pleasured. I remember my initial sexual encouragers with partners and pleasure was not present at all. It may have been in my teens as I do not remember exploring myself as a young child, I felt very detached from anything sexual growing up.

Q) What tips do you have for people who want to clear and release held sexual shame from their body?

Gift yourself the time, space, loving compassion and a support person (if you feel called) to feel and release the emotions and energy that is stored with the shaming thoughts and messaging. "Feel it to heal it" as they say - I'm a big believer of this. Wrap yourself up in a blanket physically and in self compassion energetically, and feel into the fears, regret, desire, curiosity etc. Explore and feel it all, allowing it all to be welcome and remind yourself that there is nothing wrong with you. This is the first step that you get to repeat until you feel ready to step into what calls you next.

Q) What do your self-care rituals look like for you on a daily basis?

Rituals are my favourite! Right now I am sitting with tea almost every day. It's a practice that brings me into my body, my pleasure, the present moment and deeply activates my intuition. I also practice movement most days, be it a walk, dance, swim now the water is warmer, or work out. And I always make myself beautifully nourishing and aesthetically pleasing meals and really enjoy them!

Q) What do you love most about your body?

I love how attuned my body is to my intuition, to my needs and to others energy. I love how she communicates so clearly and lovingly with me, and I love how she continues to show up for me every single day to explore the world and experience the endless pleasures my body can experience. I also love my feminine softness and curves. Our bodies are seriously incredible!

Q) What part of your body are you still learning to love and accept? (it's a journey, right?)

I'm continually practicing accepting that my belly isn't 'washboard' flat every second of every day like it was when I was in my 20s. I love my round belly and 'womb protector' as I endearingly call it. And, I often notice the social conditioning and pressure for a flat perfect tummy creep in more than I'd like. The journey is ongoing, absolutely.

Q) What are your top 3 pleasure essentials (tools, toys, resources etc)?

I love body oil / lube for my self pleasure practice, and The Rosie Rose Quartz Wand I am loving right now! Another pleasure essential with another is emotional connection - this is important to me, the feeling of safety and connection activates my full body pleasure state.

Q) What’s an unexpected moment that brought you pleasure this week?

This week I shared a beautiful meal, with a beautiful person, full of beautiful connection and openness. It was a lasting pleasure over many hours, which for me is the best kind! Inside and outside of the bedroom!

Q) Favourite song to get you in the mood?

My long standing winner is Nobody by Niia. That song gets me in the mood every time, it's so sexy and turns me on the second I hear it!

Q) Favourite ritual related to self pleasure?

I love to lay on my splash blanket and adorn my body in Yinn body oil (it's truly the best) and feel every inch of my body and be led by my pleasure as to how the session will unfold.

Q) Do you have any particular people in your life who inspire you to be a sexually empowered person?

The women I immersed myself with in a sexual sovereignty retreat I was a part of a few years ago. They each inspired me in different ways. We are all so unique and our sexual expression shifts and changes and witnessing this within another feels empowering to me on my sexual journey.

Q) How can people find you? What's the best way to buy your stuff/work with you?

Come and meet me on Instagram @sallyjanedouglas I love connecting and sharing there. And there you can see all my offerings, Classes and Programs I have on offer to support you on your journey into confidence, pleasure and connection with yourself and with others.

Q) Whats coming next for you?

Personally I feel huge shifts, changes and beginnings which excites me so much! In my service and work I am in the process of launching a dating and relating program, as well as producing my 2023 Moonstration Calendar (a cycle tracker like no other, tracing our cyclical journey alongside the moon). It is a beyond beautiful piece of art to use everyday and hang in our bedroom. And I'm excited to be living at the beach nearly everyday now summer is pretty much here!
